About Me & My Store's Story...
I am a Métis artist who has been creating since I can remember. The over the last few years, my art has been my healing ❤️🩹 and I would be lost without it.
I had a life changing experience in 2020 and that October is when I began returning to my roots and helping my father trace his. Both of his parents were largely indigenous, my grandma being Algonquian and my grandfather being both Iroquois and Algonquian (yes, very odd mix I know 🤦♀️).
I've discovered some incredible facts and family members/ancestors whom we descend from. I found close ties and direct blood relationships to recent Canadian PMs. I located relatives I never knew I had, like my distant cousin, who's currently the Grand Chief Premier of an Ojibwa Tribal Nation which branched off from the original Pembina, North Dakota's infamous "Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewas." This Grand Chief Premier and I come from an enormously long line of well known hereditary Chiefs and are related to many amazing First Nations and Métis families.
Some examples include the Bottineau family (Charles Bottineau Sr and Jr, Joseph Bottineau, etc); Grand Sachem Henri Membertou (Mi'qmak); Chief Red Bear I and II; Chief Broken Tooth Nooke; Rocky Boy Stone Child and his father; Louis Riel - yes, that famous Métis rights guy who led the Red River Rebellion; his right hand man, Gabriel Dumont; Pembina sub Chief Josephte Montreuil / Montreuille; one of Canada's best known Métis families - the Thomas dit Tranchemontagne's - mostly known for their ties to Louis Riel & his family; the Cardinal family; Mendota Sioux Chief Little Crow, his daughter Angélique Renville and her husband, along with Hyppolite Dupuis & Joseph Renville (direct blood relatives); Miami Nation (Oklahoma Tribe) Chief Jean/John B. Brouillet/Brouillette and numerous other Miami Chiefs; and many more.
My store's story is not very interesting. While awaiting serious high risk surgery for the removal of two tumours on my neck (which got really ridiculous due to the COVID-19 pandemic 😷) - 4 years nearly - I needed to fill my time and focus on inner healing. I picked up some minor art supplies ordered some beads and beading needles...the rest is history! 😁
